Support British industry and buy Starrett

Read Time: 2 Mins | 16 March 2020

In the present climate, with so many manufacturing

businesses moving their production abroad you can be forgiven

for thinking that nothing is made in the UK anymore, but I can assure you that this is not the case for British arm of The L.S. Starrett Company, established in Jedburgh, in the Scottish Borders in 1958.

Founded by the US manufacturing giants L.S. Starrett of Athol, Massachusetts, a brand synonymous with precision, quality and innovation, backed by unmatched service and support, you can be confident that this trend continues in the humble Scottish Borders, just as it has done for over 60 years.

Committed to designing and manufacturing the highest quality band saw blades and hole saws, Starrett remains the UK’s number one hole saw brand since 1978, with the firm achieving the title of the world’s largest manufacturer of saw blades.

But you may ask yourself what makes these products so unique?

With strict quality control, state-of-the-art equipment and an on-going commitment to producing superior products, Starrett hole saws and band saw blades continue to be the most accurate, robust and durable tools available, helping customers safely optimise each job with cost per cut in mind, saving valuable time and money.

Launched in Scotland in 1973, over 90 million units of Starrett’s world famous bi-metal hole saws have been produced in their Scottish-based plant, with Starrett Scotland remaining the last bi-metal hole saw manufacturer in the UK.

The three lines of Starrett hole saws made in Britain include their ever popular Bi-Metal Fast Cut, which features a new tooth material with extra cobalt for enhanced heat and water resistance, improving product life. 5.5 TPI (teeth per inch) positive rake tooth form, delivering less torque for a smoother, faster cut in metal, wood, plastic and more, as well as 30 percent extra gullet volume for better material penetration.

Also Starrett’s Bi-Metal Deep Cut, which offers a two-inch hole saw depth, improving cutting performance on tubes, enhanced heat and water resistance thanks to its new tooth material, plus aggressive material penetration and kerf clearance.

Thirdly, Starrett’s Carbide Tipped hole saw, renowned for leaving a high quality surface finish on entry and exit, guaranteeing a smoother cut on traditional lath, plaster and cast iron, plus its carbide tips provide a more cost effective solution for cutting through nail embedded wood, metal and wood combinations and reinforced concrete or fibreglass.

As the world’s largest manufacturer of saw blades you can rely on Starrett Scotland for your band saw needs. With a history of band saw blade manufacture that stretches back more than 100 years, Starrett Scotland have invested all the company’s decades of experience in their own band saw production, offering the latest cutting edge product technology, ensuring that those blades made here in their UK factory meet and exceed customer expectations time after time.

So why should I be thinking about buying local?

With carbon offsetting a key topic of discussion at present, many people feel a sense of duty to help reduce their carbon footprint in any small way possible to help the environment. Buying local allows better traceability, helps support the local economy, securing jobs, wages, social and civic well-being, plus a better economic return and not forgetting for you the customer, a superior customer service experience.
